Does this mean Invictus Gaming got a nerf?

Invictus Gaming Wins The Dota 2 ONE Esports Singapore Major 2021 With A Reverse Sweep

The defending Major champions are up to defend their title with a missing piece after Oli got false positive results which rendered him unable to join the AniMajor due to COVID-19 restrictions.

According to reports, Chan “Oli~” Chon Kien will be missing the tournament after testing positive of COVID, a report confirmed both by iG and WePlay itself.

Reports came in after WePlay flew in the remaining members if iG to Kyiv, Ukraine in a private flight arranged by WePlay itself.

Confusingly, the organizers and iG’s management updated that the ‘positive’ result of Oli was in fact a false positive, this although Oli was still required to follow the 14-day quarantine due to the protocols being implemented by Malaysia.

“UPD: Oli isn’t sick, the next tests showed that the first one was wrong and IG’s player is completely healthy. But he must quarantine still because of his country’s restrictions.” WePlay replied to their initial announcement.

Supposedly, Oli was to fly in by himself to Ukraine as he was located in Malaysia, away from his teammates. This scenario made things more convenient for iG no longer had to face quarantine protocols as they had no direct contact with the player.

In his absence, iG announced that the team’s coach Su “super” Peng will stand-in on his behalf.

Super’s substitution to the team will pretty much do well for the team as the coach himself had a strong portfolio as he had a history playing with Team DK, Wings Gaming, and iG before he proceeded to work as a coach for the team in 2019.

Despite having a strong substitute, the team will still be facing bigger challenges as they will be facing surprising changes before the Major. Meanwhile, their placement in the tournament will no longer carry any bearing to their The International direct invite as the team already received theirs because of their DPC points.

WeMajor is set to start on June 2, and iG is set to face top teams in the Wild Card round in the names of Nigma, Team Secret, and Vici Gaming.
