Katie Leung’s Harry Potter experience was not a magical one after what she revealed regarding her racism experience.

According to Leung, she endured racist attacks as early as she was 16 during her casting as Cho Chang in the Harry Potter franchise.

“I was, like, googling myself at one point and I was on this website, which was kind of dedicated to Harry Potter fandom,” the artist said.

“I remember reading all the comments. And yeah, it was a lot of racist shit.” she added.

According to her, she was forced to deny such racist experiences as instructed by production’s publicists.

“I remember them saying to me, ‘Oh, look, Katie, we haven’t seen these, these websites that people are talking about. And you know, if you get asked that, just say it’s not true, say it’s not happening.” which added more salt on the wound.

The actress from Hong Kong also added that although she had unfortunate experiences, she also had things she was really grateful for.

She mentioned that she was grateful for her experience in the franchise which took at least 10 years of her lifetime.
