Hero to Zero!

ppd announces his immediate retirement from Dota 2

Dota 2’s hottest issue now involves EU’s ‘Dark Horse’, Alliance who is now the top one in EU allegedly due to a cheating exploitation.

Eye-brows were raised after Alliance uploaded a vlog which included snippets of their game versus Brame. Unusually so, it was seen that ppd, currently Alliance’s acting coach, was heard calling the shots for the team. An unusual act as original rules in competitive Dota does not allow coaches to make calls in-game.

In the said video, ppd was heard saying “our throne is in trouble,” a call later on signaled all members of the Alliance team to rotate. Later on, ppd was also heard saying ‘gg’ at the end of the game.

The series was won by Brame, 2-1.

In spirit, Alliance has violated the Dota 2 rules. But in reality however, they did not violate any written rule as apparently, there have been changes as sent by the tournament organizers which allowed coaches to do shot-calling for the team.

Traditionally, coaches are no longer allowed to make any form of communication with the team the moment draft phase ends.

Alliance keep up strong start with win over Team Secret

According to Ben “Noxville” Steenhuisen, Dota 2 analyst, ESL and DreamHack allowed such changes for Dota Pro Circuit following ONE Esports Singapore Major. Changes explicitly showed that guidelines regarding coaches being allowed to communicate with players during the game were included in the recent guidelines.

Regarding the alleged cheating exploitation, Valve has yet to release any statement to clarify the situation.
