T1’s hopes for the World 2023 championship hang in the balance as Bae “Bengi” Seong-woong, the player-turned-head coach, has just announced his resignation.

The sad news was shared on Twitter without a definitive reason provided. Im ‘Tom’ Jae-hyeon has been promoted to interim head coach in light of this development.

This resignation comes at a time when Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok is absent from the LCK due to a wrist injury.

Bengi initially joined T1 in February 2013, back when the team was known as SK Telecom T1, taking on the role of the starting jungler.

Alongside Faker, he played a significant role in the team’s legendary run from 2013 to 2017.

During this period, T1 achieved three Worlds titles and reached the grand finals on a fourth occasion.

Despite some ups and downs with the team, Bengi played a crucial part in helping T1 secure a grand final finish at Worlds 2022.

He also contributed to the team’s second-place finish in LCK Spring 2023 and their third-place performance in MSI 2023.
