MPL PH Apologizes for Onic-Omega Match; Blames Head Marshal For Delay

Finally, an official explanation from MPL PH!

MPL Philippines on Sunday issued an official statement regarding the bug that delayed the third match between Omega Esports and ONIC Philippines, which caused quite a stir on social media.

In its statement, MPL Philippines Operating Committee said that ONIC quickly reported the bug to the assigned marshal during the draft pick. The assigned marshal then reported it to the head marshal. However, he was unable to come to a quick decision to resolve the issue.

MPL PH Operating Committee Explains

“During the third game of ONIC PH VS Omega Esports, ONIC reported a possible bug with the third pick of the draft. They were able to immediately report the matter to their assigned marshal. Who in turn shared the issue to the head marshal,” the committee said.

“Unfortunately the head marshal was unable to come to a quick decision to resolve the issue,” they added.

Due to the delay in response, the MPL PH Operations team had to intervene.

“This resulted in a complication because the issue should have been resolved immediately by ordering for an immediate redraft or letting the draft continue with the current picks. Officials from MPL-PH Operations had to intervene,” the statement continued.

Statements and concerns from both teams were taken into great consideration and after discussing the matter. The MPL-PH Operations team have decided to proceed with Game 3 with a complete reset of the draft.

The committee added that “Both ONIC PH and Smart Omega Esports were following the marshals’ instructions and expressing their opinions on the situation. Along with support by the MPL-PH Operations Team. While the resolution took a while, both teams continued to play once the issue was resolved.”

The MPL Philippines Operating committee also wishes fans and detractors alike to stop spreading hate.

“Stop spreading negative comments to either team and focus on supporting and cheering for your favorites,” they said.
