VCT 1 Hong Kong & Taiwan Champions CBT Gaming will be returning their ‘illegitimate’ crown!
Liquidpedia VALORANT told in a tweet that CBT was guilty of using an unauthorized VPN. Based on the findings, CBT Gaming will be disqualified from VCT HK&TW Challengers.
Additionally, the team will be stepping down from its throne and will be replaced by Griffin E-Sports. In this transition, Griffin will now be the number 1 seed in the Challengers 2.
In addition, Talon-X in a different post explained the whole issue clearly. According to them, Griffin reported to them some suspicions on CBT.
“In the championship game last Sunday, Griffin Esports reported to our league operating team that they suspected CBT Gaming used VPN software during the third map.” their post read.
Talon-X told that they immediately suspended the game upon receiving reports. They reported that they have investigated the issue where CBT denied all allegations.
“We immediately suspended the game and then contacted the team manager at CBT Gaming for verification, and CBT Gaming informed us that VPN software was not used during the event,” they told.
Despite the denial, Talon-X, later on, found out that CBT was indeed using VPN. “However, during the investigation after the return of Riot Games, we found evidence that the team’s answer was not entirely true when asked whether VPN software was used,” they explained.
In an explanation, Talon-X mentioned that teams are allowed to use VPNs. This, given that teams have properly applied for them to be allowed to do so.
According to the rules, teams are only allowed to use VPNs if they are encountering major issues on pings during competitions.
Hence, CBT’s win was forfeited and all prizes were to be returned to the organizers.
The top 2 Griffin received all the championship bonuses instead and have superseded the top spot.
