Benthings Wants TNC To Avoid ‘Eighth-Place Grandslam’

TNC team captain Ben “Benthings” Maglaque is well aware of the position that his team is in entering the MPL Philippines Season 12.

Following a disastrous couple of seasons that saw them finish in back-to-back eighth place, the 27-year-old roamer knows that TNC needs to deliver in the upcoming season to avoid an ‘eighth place grandslam.’

“Yung pagiging eighth place tatlong beses na. Kumbaga, hindi lang siya back to back eh. Sabi ko sa sarili ko, kapag eighth place ulit ngayong season grandslam na ako,” said Benthings during the MPL PH media day.

Despite the pressure, the former MVP candidate said that he is more than confident that the team’s composition right now can finally bring the storied TNC franchise in the MPL PH playoffs.

“Sobrang confident ako sa lineup namin na [kaya] na mag-playoffs nito,” said Benthings.

Benthings revealed that the team’s 10-man roster last season did not really click which led to their disastrous campaign. But now that the team has already cut the lineup to just six, he believes that this will bring them closer to what they want to achieve – an MPL championship.

“Tapos nung Season 11 naman, hindi agan sumolid yung chemistry as a team. Kaya nahirapan [kami],” said Benthings.

“Galing kaming 10-man [roster], ngayong 6-man na lang kami kasi hindi naging maganda yung naging experience namin sa 10-man. Maganda siyang experience na nasubukan namin ‘yon, pero hindi [talaga] siya yung swak sa amin.”
