Benthings Turns Emotional as TNC Bows Out of Playoff Race

TNC’s playoff bid ended at the hands of ONIC Philippines via a heartbreaking 0-2 sweep in the MPL Philippines Season 11 regular season, Saturday.

After a rough start in Game One, TNC managed to keep up with the raging ONIC PH in Game Two but eventually bowed out of competition after the latter caught Innocent’s Lesley late in the game.

“Ako kasi personally, hindi ako nakatingin sa points e. Kaya nung nalaman ko na may final message, kumbaga nagka-clue na ako na wala na pala kami,” Benthings said during the post-match interview.

TNC team captain Ben “Benthings” Maglaque said that the team chose not to know the implications of the match because they wanted to give their all for the team regardless of the possible outcome.

Benthings also said that he was very proud of what the team showed especially in the final games of the elimination round.

“Ako kasi personally, hindi ako nakatingin sa points e. Kaya nung nalaman ko na may final message, kumbaga nagka-clue na ako na wala na pala kami,” Benthings shared.

“Ayun lang, pumuso kami. Hanggat hindi ina-announce, yun yung [gusto] ng team e, yun yung pinanghahawakan ng team. Hanggat ina-announce na wala na kami sa playoffs, hindi kami titigil bumawi,” he added.

Before the loss to ONIC PH, TNC managed to trip league-leader Bren Esports and reigning world champion ECHO to make one final push for the playoffs. Unfortunately, the team failed to sustain their momentum as they ran to a brick wall that is ONIC PH.

Still, Benthings said that the team is very eager to bounce back next season and he hopes that they can finally get over the hump after missing the playoffs for the second consecutive time.

“Maraming, maraming salamat sa mga sumuporta hanggang dulo. Pinalakas niyo talaga yung loob namin. ‘Wag kayong mag-alala, may Season 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 pa,” said Benthings.

“Hindi matatapos yung pangarap namin mag-champion dito sa MPL hanggat ‘di nawawala yung MPL. Maraming salamat sa suporta.”
