Belo Medical Group is famous for body enhancements receives backlash following their ‘distasteful’ ad.

In collaboration with Gigil, the group released an ad featuring a story of a girl whose beauty slowly deteriorated.

Following their story line, the girl slowly became fat, full of ugly hairs, and all other ‘horrific’ stuff. The story relates the change to the currently ongoing pandemic.

The said storyline did not sit well with netizens despite the brand’s head claiming that it’s just the pandemic effect.

“it is not you, it is the pandemic effect,” Dr. Vicki Belo told.

Fans argue that the advertisement is utterly distasteful,” “insensitive,” and is “banking on people’s insecurities.”

Woke netizens expressed nothing but ugly words on the supposed beauty company’s campaign.

“[I] can’t believe there was body shaming, skin health shaming, and mental health shaming all in a minute and thirty seconds.” one Twitter user raised.

“We’re in a pandemic, and we’re all trying to survive,” another one posted adding that, “The last thing we need is an ad that points out our body changes. Distasteful and insensitive.”

Meanwhile, other netizens shared affirming words for their fellow women who are experiencing insecurities.

“Just a gentle reminder that your body, no matter what it looks like, carried you through this global pandemic,” told one netizen.

“You are amazing, your body is amazing, and you are more than enough!” the user added.

The said initiative of Belo was even supported by many famous personalities. This, in addition to a minority who also shared their own pandemic stories.

For whatever reason, this #PandemicEffect campaign is definitely affecting them, but in the ugliest way.
