Introducing a fresh addition to the competition format, the M5 World Championship in the Philippines will now incorporate Wild Card qualifiers.

Previously, teams earned direct invites to the M-series world championship by winning Mobile Legends Professional Leagues and other regional qualifiers or championships.

Each region typically received one slot, with exceptions made for MPL Indonesia, MPL Philippines, and Latin America’s LIGA LATAM, which were allocated two slots. The invited teams then engaged in group stages before progressing to the knockout rounds, usually following a double-elimination format.

“The move serves to empower the global esports ecosystem with more opportunities to engage in cross-regional dialogues and encourage inclusivity,” said Moonton Games in the statement.

The Wild Card will be hosted in November, featuring eight regions in a different country, followed by the Group and Knockout Stages at the Philippines in December. The M5 Champion will walk away with the lion’s share of USD 900,000.

The Wild Card phase will feature eight regions: the MPL Malaysia runner-up, the champion of the MEKONG Qualifier, the third-place finisher from Latin America’s LIGA LATAM, the winner of South Asia’s Champions Battle, the runner-up of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia’s (EECA) MLBB Continental Championships, the champion of Mongolia’s National Wild Card Qualifier, and two additional regions yet to be announced.

This new format was unveiled during the Grand Finals of the revamped Mobile Legends Southeast Asian Cup (MSC), which now includes regions beyond Southeast Asia. The MSC, previously a regional event, has transformed into a midyear global tournament, showcasing MOONTON’s dedication to further advancing the Mobile Legends esports scene.
