The Philippines’ SIBOL squad has proven their dominance in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang after a dominant 3-0 win over Malaysia at the 32nd SEA Games.
This is their third straight gold medal after MLBB was introduced as a medal event, along with other esports titles, at the 30th SEA Games in 2019.
SIBOL’s starting five is composed of Bren Esports players under the guidance of veteran head coach Francis “Duckey” Glindro.
It was tough playoffs for SIBOL as they faced Myanmar favorites in the semifinal yesterday, where they narrowly won in a 2-1 showdown to qualify for the grand final.
The grand final proved to be a clash between two different approaches to team composition: chemistry versus star power.
SIBOL’s team consisted of the experienced starting five from Bren Esports, while Malaysia’s team boasted star players from various MPL MY teams.
Ultimately, SIBOL’s strategy of fielding a cohesive and well-oiled team proved to be a decisive factor.
Although Bren Esports swept the series, it was a hard-fought battle, particularly in the first and second match, where Malaysia put up a strong fight against the Filipino team.
This win also marks Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel second SEA Games medal after representing the Philippines in 2019.
