In recent months, Dota has been gaining more popularity in terms of matches in the EU, while losing in other regions.

With the recent 2022 Battle Pass release and the upcoming The International 11, many players were returning from hiatus. Surprisingly, the majority of the players seem to come from the European region.

However, Dota and its popularity seem to decline in other regions, including SEA and China.

One of the players revealed the numbers by looking at the matches by region statistics. It was shown that Europe reached a peak of 12 million matches in August 2022. Although the trend was still fluctuating by a bit, it shows a spike in activity for Europe.

Unfortunately, other regions show a decline in matches, especially China.

Nowadays, China matches in total barely reached 2 million, 10 million less than Europe. Many players tied this trend to the fact that China has limited the playing time of computer games to only three hours per week.

Due to this law, Chinese professional players were also spotted playing on the SEA server instead of their own server.

The low match count of the NA region also contributed to the fact that the region was struggling in the professional scene. The lack of new blood and interest led to the stagnation of the players in the area.

Many players were worried that the stagnation could lead to the collapse of NA Dota in the near future.
