The name Rachel Vennya is being discussed by Indonesian netizens again. This time, it’s not with her ex-husband Niko Al Hakim, but with her announcement of a netizen’s identity search contest.

At first, Rachel uploaded a direct chat message that she received from a netizen. The netizen wrote, “Why you turn the IG story replies off? Not cool. Getting ready to be lontai (prostitute; slut), huh,” to her. Rachel Vennya actually had admitted that she received many hate messages like this. But this time, she decided to set an example for other netizens to not to do the same thing.

The next IG Story, she announced a contest to her followers to find the netizen’s identity. The netizen’s account name is @fathinfas. Rachel promised cash prizes of ID Rp.15 million (or US $1.048,58) for participants who can provide Fathin’s full identity. Two days after the contest was announced, Rachel’s email was already full with the subjects ‘Fathin’s biodata’.

During Rachel’s contest, Fathin repeatedly asked to be forgiven by Rachel, admitting her mistake. She even offered GrabFood services for free.

“What should I do? Do you want GrabFood from me?” asked Fathin, but immediately rejected by Rachel in the next chat.

“What do you want then 😭😭😭 Forgive me if I’m wrong. I indeed made a mistake but please help me. I will go to college (this year), I’m afraid I already have bad name. I still want to go to college, forgive me please. What should I do,” plead Fathin.

This series of events has been widely discussed on the famous gossip account @lambe_turah on Instagram and on Twitter.

Rachel’s contest is fully supported by netizens on Instagram. However, this reaps pros and cons on Twitter. Netizens who disagree with this said that Rachel could end up doing doxing. If she does this contest carelessly, Rachel herself will be processed by the police because of the Indonesian ITE Law (Information and Electronic Transaction Law) due to the dissemination of someone’s information without consent.

On Sunday evening, Rachel had time to talk about the results of her viral contest.

“I know my actions are not very wise, but sometimes people like this need to learn his/her lesson. Not all the people you mock were silent as the dead,” said Rachel for the opening.

“IMO, (when) I block people who hates me, (it means) I’m still nice. I don’t want to let you commit a sin and I don’t want to make myself lose my temper. So if I do off-comment, off-reply DM, that means I’m saving both of us from a sea of emotions and egos,” continued Rachel.

“I guess other public figures and I will definitely be called using power abuse or evil. But what would you say? Think again, so (let) both think and position ourselves,” said Rachel. “If there are still people who said ‘that is your risk becoming a public figure’, I will reply with, ‘it is also your risk if you did like this’. You reap what you sow,” continued Rachel.

This single mother with two children also admits that she will do the same to netizens who give hate comments on her TikTok private messages. However, she wanted to solve her problems with Fathin first after she returned from Dubai and finished her business in Jakarta.

What do you guys think? Do you also support her contest? Or hoping that it should be stopped so that Rachel is not sued by the authorities?
