China Censors Friends Reunion; Removes Parts of BTS, Justin Bieber, and Lady Gaga

Some Chinese fans maybe missing some of this masterpiece reunion.

China had streamed a different version of the much awaited Friends Reunion by removing the parts of BTS, Justin Bieber, and Lady Gaga.

The said Chinese version definitely changed so much of the original movie as multiple LGBTQ references were also removed.

According to rumors, China may have censored the movie due to the stars allegedly insulting the country in the past. Despite the said allegation, the censored version of the movie did not sit well with Chinese fans.

“Help! Are we never going to move on and change? This will just make me want to find out more about the cut scenes,” one Weibo user who shared disappointment regarding the Chinese version of the reunion.

As retaliation, many Chinese users have shared the deleted scenes on their own social media in order to make their fellow fans enjoy the reunion in full. Others also sourced the original version in some piracy sites just to enjoy the full movie.

The said series has a strong fanbase in China, especially to millennials who claim that Friends introduced them to the American culture, and that the series even made their English speaking skills even better.

According to reports, the BTS scene was cut due to RM, the group’s leader’s remarks on South Korea’s history of pain which he claimed was shared with the United States. Many Chinese citizens were angered by his statement as China backed North Korea in history.

Meanwhile, the Lady Gaga part which was absolutely satisfying due to her “smelly cat” segment was cut allegedly because she met with Dalai Lama in 2016 which eventually banned her from touring in China.

On the other hand, Justin Bieber’s scene was cut because he was banned in China due to his “bad behavior”.

Aside from such, China has also cut other scenes including the part where Ricardo, a German fan who was gay, shared his appreciation for the series. “I was a gay man who wanted to be like Jennifer Aniston, so you can imagine how lonely I was,” was his original line from the original version of the movie.

It is really saddening that many Chinese fans were not able to enjoy the movie in full.

The said Friends Reunion has reminisced many fans’ memories as the movie reunited all of the cast members in an interview.
