Yang Mi Joins Anime Waist Challenge, Gets Backlash from Doctors

Trends are just one of the usual ways for influencers and celebrities alike to go viral. And for Yang Mi, she went viral, but for a problematic reason.

Top Asian star Yang Mi is one of Southeast Asia’s hottest headlines after receiving backlash from netizens online for her “Anime Waist Challenge” which she posted on her social media.

Despite receiving several praises for her hot and sexy physique, her content did not sit well with some netizens, more so to those from the medical field.

The trend, which Mi decided to try is where you imitate a pose from a comic of a female character whose upper body goes flat on the floor while her lower part remains sitting on the chair.

Orthopedic doctors slammed the challenge saying that the pose can cause harm to one’s muscles and may eventually affect one’s lumbar spine.

Yang Mi has since then apologized for her actions, defending that she found out the harm the challenge may cause a little bit late.

“I only found out today that it could be harmful to you if there is no professional instructor guiding you. I am very sorry. My failure to take everything into consideration properly has created misunderstandings for everybody.” she stated.

She even urged people to take care of their health, but in a safe way.

“I hope that everybody would try to do healthy exercises and stretching movements in a safe environment. I will be more cautious in the future,” she told.

Despite following backlash and criticisms, Yang Mi has yet to delete her challenge posted on her Instagram account.
