Syed “SumaiL” Hassan picked up where he left off, leading Team Asters to a winning debut in the Dota Pro Circuit China Tour 3: Division I at the Perfect World Esports Center in Beijing, China.
The former Dota 2 child wonder delivered an impressive 13-0-12 KDA line on Timbersaw in Game One before ending the series with a game-high 17 assists along with five kills and two deaths on Void Spirit in Game Two.
SumaiL only arrived in China last night but still managed to put up impressive numbers for Team Aster.
“It’s been good. I just landed yesterday, last night actually so yeah. It’s fun,” said SumaiL during the post-match interview.
The former The International champion relished the chance of competing once again on the stage, as the DPC China is conducting its games in offline settings unlike other regions.
“It’s always more fun to play on the stage. We have a crowd too, it’s a hundred people or something so it’s actually nice to play right off the bat in front of an audience. It’s way better than playing in a room for sure,” shared SumaiL.

SumaiL played as a stand-in for Team Aster in the Berlin Major where they finished in 7th-8th place. But according to the former Evil Geniuses star, the communication between him and the Chinese squad started prior to TI 10 almost two years ago.
However, his stints with Team Liquid and OG then halted their negotiations. It was only a few months back when things started to materialize for SumaiL and Team Aster.
“There were talks after… during COVID, before TI 10, to potentially join them but I stood in for Liquid and OG popped up so it didn’t happen back then. But there was this talk like two years ago,” said SumaiL.
SumaiL admitted that he didn’t expect to really blend well with the rest of Team Aster due to language barrier.
But their performance in the Berlin Major proved him wrong as they played seamlessly throughout the tournament despite getting booted out in the second round of the lower bracket.
“And then I stood in in the [Berlin] Major. We kinda clicked actually. I didn’t expect it. I mean obviously I expected that it’s gonna be awful [because] people overestimate this language stuff but like the chemistry was actually insanely good so we just decided why not continue.”
Now, SumaiL and Team Aster is looking to continue what they started in the Berlin Major and take the top spot in the final tour of DPC China.
