Latin American esports seems to have taken part in quite a number of recent criminal cases. Previously, the Latin American Esports took the virtual world by storm with the involvement of Valorant Masters and LDM Esports. The problem has not yet been resolved, and there is a new case where two esports veterans from the FIFA scene who were caught using fake identities to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Ruben Zerecero, known as one of the best FIFA players in Latin America for the last two decades, and Rubén Zerecero, a star of the Latin American FIFA esports scene and in his career already won many trophies was the runner-up at the FIFA Interactive World Cup in 2009, were caught using fake identities to get a jab.

The two were arrested by the police on the afternoon of March 27 in Mexico.

This happened right after the two of them went to a vaccination center in Mexico City. It was found that both of them had faked their respective birth certificates and ID, Rubén Zerecero was found to have forged documents belonging to his relatives, while Christian Nieva tried to disguise himself as Rubén Zerecero’s uncle.

This was brought up when a federal civil servant observed the defendants in an unusual and suspicious manner. This is because they both wear hooded shirts and sunglasses that cover their faces, as well as carrying masks and face shields which are required by medical protocol. Suspicious of their appearance, the federal officer in charge immediately asked for their documents again and immediately arrested the two of them.

The two appeared in court on April 7 and were charged with falsification of public documents. The two will face sentences of 4 to 8 years in prison, and identity theft with a threat of up to 9 years.
