Sumail Says He Respects TORONTOTOKYO For This Reason

In a recent interview, renowned Dota 2 professional player SumaiL opened up about his respect for TORONTOTOKYO’s in-game trash talk during The International (TI). 

The outspoken player expressed his admiration for TORONTOKYO’s audacity and acknowledged that such banter is an integral part of competitive gaming.

SumaiL, widely recognized as one of the most accomplished mid-laners in Dota 2, shared his thoughts on TORONTOTOKYO’s in-game taunting during a crucial match at TI. 

He acknowledged that while he personally disliked it at the time due to his elimination from the tournament, he still respected the act as it showcased a level of competitiveness and a keen understanding of the game’s dynamics.

““You have to say before or during it. When TORONTOTOKYO did it during the game against us at TI, I thought that wasn’t cool. I mean, of course, I was getting eliminated from TI so I hated it,” said SumaiL.

“But at the same time I respected it because it’s in the game. I still respected it. I think that was at least proper. It’s on the Main Stage. It’s not some pub battle going on.”

The exchange between SumaiL and TORONTOTOKYO occurred on the main stage of The International, the most prestigious Dota 2 tournament. SumaiL emphasized that this made a significant difference compared to typical online battles or casual pub games, where trash talk might be viewed differently.

The young prodigy also highlighted the importance of players voicing their intentions and emotions before or during a match, rather than resorting to unsportsmanlike conduct outside the game. 

According to SumaiL, in-game banter is acceptable and even commendable as long as it remains within the boundaries of the competitive environment.

Just recently, TORONTOTOKYO called out Azure Ray during their lower bracket match in the Bali Major after the Chinese squad allegedly forced tournament organizers to disqualify Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko.

Pure was banned from the rest of the tournament after getting caught stream-sniping during their series against Tundra Esports.
