Bren Esports was disqualified from competing in the World Cyber Games Open Qualifiers after Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel made a clerical error during the registration phase prior to the tournament proper.

“Sorry guys, nagkamali talaga ako. ‘Di na rin pinayagan palaruin mga reserve players diretso DQ agad,” Pheww commented in a fan’s Facebook post.

According to head coach Francis “Duckey” Glindro, Pheww missed one digit when he was filling out his game ID. This was pointed out by Dewa United FC after they lost the opening game of their series against the Filipino squad.

“During our match vs Dewa United FC, particularly after game 1 (1-0 in favor of my team), Dewa United Esports complained that one of my players (Pheww) has an incorrect registered ID in the WCG – World Cyber Games database,” said Duckey in a Facebook post.

“It was missing 1 digit. A completely unintentional clerical mistake,” he noted.

The organizers, however, immediately dropped the hammer on Bren Esports, announcing that the team is disqualified from competing in the qualifiers. Bren Esports tried to protest the ruling to no avail.

“WCG – World Cyber Games deemed it necessary to completely disqualify my team for this scenario. Calling out that “we are professionals” and that we should know this like we can never make mistakes, ever,” said the Filipino head coach.

Duckey credits Vren for Bren's hot streak

“Yeah, I know, rules are rules, but really? Over 1 digit? A disqualification? Must be a lottery winning digit,” he added.

Bren Esports is one of the two MPL Philippines teams competing in the tournament organized by BigPicture.

ECHO, as well as its MDL team, ECHO Proud, are also in the tournament alongside amateur Filipino squads Abyssal Kings and Lady Idolls.

Duckey ended by telling fans to continue supporting the remaining teams in the WCG Open Qualifiers but made sure to leave some parting words for their counterparts, Dewa United FC, in an Instagram post.

“Anyways GG. Continue supporting all the teams remaining in the WCG Open Qualifiers,” said Duckey.

“@Dewaunitedesports, scared little sh1ts.”
