The Philippines’ Court of Appeals has cleared Bren Esports CEO Bernard “Bren” Chong of drug charges and quashed the warrant of arrest against him.
The Manila City Regional Trial Court (RTC) had charged Chong for his alleged involvement in a failed drug smuggling operation at the Manila International Container Port.
However, the Court of Appeals overturned the decision, stating that the RTC had named Chong as one of the accused and co-conspirators without sufficient evidence.
Chong had filed a Petition for Certiorari before the Appellate Court, claiming that he was falsely accused of the crime and that the RTC had committed grave abuse of discretion.
The Court of Appeals agreed with Chong and dismissed the case against him, stating that he was no longer connected to the company involved in the drug smuggling operation way back.
Chong founded Bren Esports in 2017, which made history by becoming the first Filipino esports team to win the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang M2 World Championship title in 2021.
