China’s international trophy hopes in Dota 2 have once again been dashed as powerhouse Team Liquid eliminated Team Aster in the lower bracket showdown at the Berlin Major with a 2-0 victory.
This leaves only five teams remaining in the tournament: Gaimin Gladiators, 9Pandas, Team Liquid, OG, and Evil Geniuses.
China’s slump continues since the start of the year, beginning with the Lima Major in the first half of the year.
The last time a Chinese team found success in a LAN event was during the Riyadh Masters, where PSG.LGD emerged victorious.
There may be several reasons for China’s struggles, with one being the alleged presence of match-fixers in their competitive scene. As a result, Valve banned 46 teams for “interfering with unfair competition.”
This ban dealt a significant blow, as the winner of the tournament would receive the biggest share of the $500,000 prize pool. Nevertheless, Team Aster still takes home $12,500 and 200 DPC points.
