Anip Steps Up as HomeBois Deals Team SMG First Loss in MPL MY S11

Muhammad “Anip” Rashid’s Claude starred as HomeBois pulled off a massive upset, handing Team SMG its first defeat of the season, 2-1, in the MPL Malaysia Season 11 playoffs on Friday.

The third-seeded squad from the regular season took down the top-ranked squad in the semifinals to advance to the upper bracket finale.

Game One went the distance but it was HomeBois who came out on top after Anip’s Claude finished with six kills and nine assists against one death to lead his team’s tight 17-16 win.

Anip’s counterpart, Lu “Sasa” Khai Bean, bounced back in the second match and recorded a game-high 10 kills to help Team SMG even the series through a 19-7 Game Two win in 17 minutes of action.

With the upper bracket berth at stake, Anip once again brought out his signature Claude and helped HomeBois close off the league-leading Team SMG via a 12-7 Game Three triumph in 22 minutes. He finished with a kill, two deaths, and nine assists in the contest. 

HomeBois is the first team to enter the upper bracket finals where they will await the winner of the Team Lunatix-Todak semis match-up. Meanwhile, Team SMG will face the loser of the same series in the lower bracket quarterfinals.
