League of Legends fans were taken aback when Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg announced his retirement from competitive play for the second time.

Bjergsen, a key player for 100 Thieves, is considered a pioneer in the League of Legends esports scene. However, what is even more surprising is that even his organization was not aware of his plans to retire.

In a recent episode of the 100 Thieves Podcast, the team’s CEO, Matthew ‘Nadeshot’ Haag, revealed that they were only informed of Bjergsen’s decision an hour before his announcement video was released.

“We were at the golf course when I got the text, and it was basically Jacob, our head of esports, saying, ‘Bjergsen just informed us that he’s retiring and he’s going to release a statement within the next hour,’” Nadeshot shared.

Bjergsen later apologized for the sudden decision in a tweet to Nadeshot, acknowledging that he could have handled it differently.

He wrote, “I totally get it and agree I could have handled it differently while still likely not having it leak.

I’m sorry about that. Still happy and proud to have ended my playing career with you guys.”
