After emerging victorious in the highly competitive VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) LOCK//IN tournament, the team was no doubt looking forward to proudly displaying their shiny new trophy for all to see.
Unfortunately, it seems that fate had other plans in store, as the team’s hard-won prize was unceremoniously destroyed while in transit at the airport.
Fnatic’s star player, Nikita ‘Derke’ Sirmitev, alleged on Twitter that the team’s VCT LOCK//IN trophy was intentionally broken by someone who removed it from its case during baggage transfer.
Team Director, Colin ‘CoJo’ Johnson confirmed that the trophy was dropped or smashed during transit. Fnatic has filed a claim with Riot to either fix or replace the damaged trophy.
Images shared by Derke and teammate Timofey ‘Chronicle’ Khromov showed the VCT logo visibly damaged with broken pieces.
British Airways, the flight operator, has responded to Chronicle’s tweet, seeking further information to investigate the matter.
The incident has tarnished Fnatic’s thrilling victory over LOUD in a tense five-map grand final on March 4 in the VCT LOCK//IN tournament.
