SMG CEO Resigns Over TI11 Disqualification

Team SMG on Friday apologized to fans and the new players due to their TI11 Qualifier problems, and their CEO Kenchi Yap resigned from his post.

The controversy surrounding Team SMG disqualification from TI11 Qualifier is finally revealed by the organization. They released a long explanation about what caused the problem, which involved the players and the managers.

Consequently, their CEO, Kenchi Yap, will resign as well due to the qualifier problem.

The organization opened their statement by announcing officially that they were disqualified from TI11 Qualifier. They apologized to their players, especially Iceiceice and poloson who joined the team specifically for the qualifier.

Several reasons were cited as the main cause, such as communication breakdown between team manager and players. There were also late confirmation of finalized DPC roster, and they appealed to Valve. Sadly, the appeal was denied.

They also accepted full responsibility for the event, and their lapse of judgement in that timeframe. Both players and the management also acknowledged their mistakes, and would try to move on from it.

Consequently, Kenchi Yap, the CEO of Team SMG, would be stepping down and an interim CEO would be appointed. There would also be updates regarding the future of Team SMG’s Dota 2 roster for the DPC 2023, signaling possible roster changes.
