Valve Bans Mods To Avoid Cheaters

In the latest Dota 2 update, Valve finally banned mods with the excuse of eliminating cheats such as scripts and map hacks.

Bad news comes for Dota 2 fans who often use mods. Valve has finally banned players from using mods in the latest Dota update. They held a CRC check for file modifications in Dota, and forbade players who modified these files to play online. This seems to be Valve’s solution to dealing with cheaters that are starting to break out in Dota.

CRC checks like this will happen when you queue to play Dota, regardless of the game mode. If the files look modified, then a message like this will appear and you cannot play online. Dota can still be played offline if you receive this message. However, if you want to play online, you have to turn Dota files back into its original state.

This solution is not very popular with Dota players. In fact, some are color blind and require file modifications to distinguish creeps. Apparently, Valve still needs to review their decision to disable online play if players are caught using mods. Or, they need to find a better solution if there is a problem such as color blindness.
