Bad news came from China after Steam was banned because Steam players from China couldn’t access “Global” Steam.
Steam players from China have to give up their game library which may already be in the hundreds because the application was banned. This happened after Steam players from China reported that they could no longer access the “Global” version of Steam.
This is a major blow for them, because now they can only access their country-specific Steam, which only contains approximately 100 games.
Fortunately, Dota 2 and CS:GO are among those 100 games. This should not affect the upcoming Dota 2 tournaments in China, including the 2021 DPC starting in January.
It is not yet clear whether these players will be able to access the global version of Steam again in the near future.
However, many people still doubt that China has actually banned applications from Valve or not.
There is some speculation that this was due to a DNS attack by hackers, which prevented players from logging into Steam.
NME reported the speculation following investigations by several other sources.
There has been no official statement from Valve or China yet regarding this incident.
