Bren Esports to Skip Valorant Masters Berlin as Riot Fails to Secure Travel Visas for the Team

It’s official. All-Filipino squad Bren Esports will not be in Valorant Masters Berlin as organizer Riot Games failed to secure their visas for the event.

In a statement, Riot Games said that due to COVID-19 restrictions, they were unable to secure the necessary travel visas for the team.

Bren Esports is the number one seeded team from Southeast Asia. They defeated Singaporean squad Paper Rex in the VCT Challengers – SEA playoffs in a dominant 3-0 sweep to be called kings of Southeast Asia Valorant this year. 

“Over the past month our global mobility teams in North America, Europe, and Asia explored multiple avenues to find a solution, including engaging with relevant governmental agencies in the Philippines and Germany. But this time, having passed the final deadline that would allow Bren Esports to travel and attend the event, we are going to proceed with a 15 team tournament,” their statement read.

With this decision, the format of the tournament will be modified. Group D, where Bren Esports was placed will now pivot to a double round robin with the top two teams advancing to the elimination stage.

“Bren Esports will be awarded 175 VCT points and the associated prize for qualifying into Masters Berlin. No other group will be impacted, and the tournament will conclude with an eight-team single elimination bracket,” Riot Games said.

Bren Esports Issues Statement

Meanwhile, Bren Esports said on their Twitter account that the support from the community has been overwhelming.

“Our Valorant team’s win historical win in the VCT Challengers SEA has once again proved that the Philippines has what it takes to compete in the global stage of esports. We have exhausted all the possible options that would enable our team to travel to Berlin on time and safely to compete,” Bren said in a statement.

Unfortunately, given the unfavorable circumstances, tight deadlines, and travel restrictions that are out of our control, our team will be unable to travel to Berlin to compete,” the team added.

The organization said that despite the setbacks, they are still proud of the Valorant team’s achievements “and look forward to their continued success.”

We are thankful for all the support that the community has given us through these trying times, and we will continue to break barriers because of your overwhelming support,” they concluded.
