Another influencer wants to have something for free, and it is Yexel Sebastian this time.

Filipino influencer Yexel Sebastian on Monday posted on his Facebook an inquiry about the construction of his house. He is asking his followers if they know a contractor who can build the second floor of his house, and even attached the design.

It was all well and good until the second paragraph. The contractor who’s willing to do it will be paid… with a vlog feature!

Yexel Sebastian

In a badly-worded, grammatically-challenged letter circulating in social media, Yexel’s representative Isa Chua boasted the influencer’s 9.1 million followers across social media platforms.

In the said letter, Yexel’s camp revealed that they are needing some materials for their construction in Bulacan. If the contractor provides the materials and services for free, they will be featuring them in his vlog.

“On behalf of Mr. Sebastian, we will not demand any talent fee or any payment for this collaboration,” the letter read.

“As an exchange for the sponsored materials that suit the construction, we can offer you the best advertising money can buy – word of mouth, amazing quality montage and photo/video review of other materials you offer,” it added.

The netizens were quick to respond to the post. Most of them condemned the influencer for asking for free stuff when he is well and able to pay.

Yexel deleted the post following social media backlash.

Yexel Sebastian Backtracks Statement Following Backlash

In his recent post, Yexel Sebastian backtracked his statement and said the post was intended for big companies.

“Sa Companies po tayo makikipag deal kung saan pwede kami mag benefit sa magkabilang panig.Hindi tayo sikat.Pero meron din po satin kahit papano na nakakapanood.at baka makahelp din kami tru video vlogs in exchange.”

(We are offering the deal to big companies where there can be mutual benefits. I am not famous, but people are watching our vlogs as well. We think we can help promote businesses through our vlogs)

He added that his earlier post did not intend to degrade any profession.

“Ang post po ay hindi Ibaba ang Tingin sa mga Contractors Engineers Architects Etc. Ganon din sa mga Artist Vloggers o influencers. Lahat po tayo may VALUE. Ako po ay humihingi ng tulong kapalit ay serbisyo ko,” he said.

(The earlier post did not mean to lower the image of contractors, engineers, architects, etc. Not even the artists, vloggers, or influencers. We all have value. I am asking for help in exchange of my service.)

New Statement Causes More Damage

Instead of converting the netizens’ anger to sympathy, Yexel’s statement caused him even more damage.

Netizens reiterated in the comments section that he is a vlogger earning hundreds of thousands from a single video, hence can pay for whatever he is asking for free.

In addition, Some engineers even commented about the real cost of constructing his second floor.

“May materials, labor, equipment at marami kinoconsider sa costs. Hindi po mapapakain ng promotion niyo ang mga workers na magtratrabaho sa site. Isipin mo pagdating ng sahod magtatanong workers magkano sahod tapos sasabihin mo promotion lang bayad. Next time, pag magpapagawa ng bahay, tignan muna if kaya talaga ng kapasidad magbayad. Puro nalang diskarte at maparaan, paano na ang mga manggagawa?,” one comment said.

(There are materials, labor, equipment, and many more things we consider in the costs. Your promotion won’t feed our hungry workers who work in our site. Imagine when they receive their meager salary, the workers will ask about how much they will earn and you will say you’ll just promote them in your vlog. Next time, when you think of building a house, check if you have the capacity to pay. You’re all about resourcefulness, how about the workers?)
