Moonton on Friday announced that the MPL Philippines Season 8 has been postponed.

The postponement of MPL follows after the country declared a new quarantine protocol.

The Philippine government announced a week ago that the country will be reverting back to Enhanced Community Quarantine. This announcement follows after a high surge on delta variants in the country.

The new quarantine protocol limits the operations in the country only to essential services and establishments.

Initially, Moonton scheduled the MPL Philippines on August 13 until the end of October.

The health and safety of the teams, partners, local staff, and communities is of utmost priority. The MPL Philippines team will adhere to all government guidelines and safety protocols and take extra precautions during the tournament to ensure the players’ wellness,” Moonton told in an announcement.

As of this moment, the company has yet to provide any detail regarding the new date for the season.

This year, MPL Philippines is gonna be exciting as it will be implementing the new franchise league system.

MPL’s new system aims to establish a sustainable esports ecosystem. MPL launched this new system first in Indonesia in 2019.

Currently, MPL Philippines already has its final 8 who will compete for the prize pool of US$150,000.

The list includes Season 7 champions Blacklist International, M2 World Champions Bren Esports, ECHO, ONIC PH, Smart Omega, Nexplay EVOS, RSG PH, and TNC Pro Team.
