Is Moonton monopolizing the Riot tournament?

There have been rumors behind Indonesian esports teams giving up their Wild Rift division recently. The chatters said it was because of the new Moonton regulations.

The Wild Rift Icon Series Fall Season Qualifier tournament in Indonesia is getting closer. However, some Indonesian esports teams already disbanded their Wild Rift division after they didn’t qualify for the Summer Super Cup.

MBR Esports, which was the 2nd runner-up in the Indonesia Summer Season Qualifier yesterday, just released its 4 players a week ago.

Apparently, the release of the players was rumored to be because of new Moonton regulations. Esports teams and players who play Mobile Legends division are not allowed to promote or even play other MOBA games, the rumor said.

This also applies to pro players when they livestream.

Parties weighed in on this shocking news. Some understand the regulation because it’s the developer’s right to set it. It is also a common rule in other competitions besides esports. However, they also must have a written agreement with the concerned team.

Some see this regulation as an act of monopoly against other mobile games with similar genres. Netizens are comparing with the PUBG Mobile and Free Fire which they don’t have any of that rules.

This news has become the latest hot discussion in two gossip accounts, @lambe_wildriftid and @emak_moba.

They include a clip of Kurohiko’s stream when they talked about the rumor.

Do you think this indeed a monopoly act by Moonton? Or is it natural for developers to set this regulation?
