#BenderaPutih served as the official hashtag for Malaysians who are struggling for survival.

Local influencer Bryan Wee however treated the cause as a joke. Wee on his social media posted his own version of #BenderaPutih where he donned a kinky yellow dress partnered with a white cloth flag.

Bryan thought his post was entertaining. This, until netizens lambasted the influencer for being insensitive.

Wee’s upload offended irked netizens saying the influencer failed to properly use his platform.

Netizens told Bryan Wee exploited #BenderaPutih for clout.

The said official hashtag was made popular to encourage people who are struggling to signal help online.

Malaysians popularized the cause to rally against the government. The official hashtag aims to inspire citizens help each other instead. Other hashtags being popularized for the cause are #RakyatJagaRakyat and #KitaJagaKita.

Bryan Wee maintained that he’s using his platform to raise awareness. He told that he followed the trend to expand the call to a wider audience.

However, got into bigger problem after netizens exposed him of being sponsored. Netizens claim 99 Speedmart sponsored him with free food items.
