Filipino Boxer Manny Pacquiao Asked to Return $3.3M for Breach of Contract

Filipino Boxer Manny Pacquiao faces a lawsuit seeking to return $3,300,000 for alleged breach of contract.

The lawsuit also asked the eight-division champion to stop his next fight against WBC and IBF world welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. The match will take place on August 21 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA.

According to The Athletic, Paradigm Sports CEO Auddie Attar was in talks to have Pacquiao fight Mikey Garcia. However, the Filipino boxing legend’s allies Sean Gibbons and Winchell Campos convinced him to fight Spence instead.

“In addition to the millions of dollars in straightforward economic loss that Paradigm stands to suffer. The damage to its reputation resulting from Pacquiao’s breaches is incalculable,” Paradigm lawyer Judd Burstein wrote in the suit.

“Just when Paradigm was at the cusp of establishing itself as a major player in professional boxing, Pacquiao has left its reputation as a boxing representative in tatters.”

Pacquiao could fight… Mayweather only

Pacquiao is not obligated to compete for Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions unless he is facing Floyd Mayweather. The latter defeated him by majority decision in 2015.

“Pacquiao’s breaches of the agreement, therefore, entitle Paradigm to monetary damages (and) costs associated with this proceeding, including but not limited to attorneys’ fees and … injunctive relief,” Burstein said.

In February 2020, the California-based agency and Pacquiao teamed together to seek a four-fight agreement with streaming provider DAZN, with two of the bouts set to take place in Saudi Arabia.

In February, Paradigm released a statement about “shady persons” attempting to become involved in Pacquiao’s financial affairs without the permission of the management group.
