Hello, Mineski!

Philippines’ Games and Amusement Board (GAB) issued a show cause order to Mineski Philippines due to illegal tournaments hosted by the group.

According GAB’s esports appointee, Mineski held different esports tournaments since July last year. This, without them securing necessary permits and license from the regulatory board.

The point person of GAB also noted that the board have tried reaching out to Mineski but to no avail. Reports say that Mineski received the order in May 18.

“These promoters from Mineski and Pillar Digital E-commerce since July last year, nagpapa-tournament na po sila nang walang permit and licenses from GAB. When we say professional tournaments, the players involved the players who are participating are GAB licensees and they are competing for money or the prize pool,” the point person told.

According to reports, Mineski held Valorant Pacific Open Philippine Qualifiers, the Mineski VxV, Valorant First Strike: Philippines, Rainbow Six Operation League, and the Mineski Cups (Tournament for Wild Rift). The said tournaments are the events hosted by Mineski starting from last year.

According to GAB, the board will have the power to remove Mineski’s license and other esports privileges should they ignore the issued show-cause order.

As per Mineski’s Country Manager, the organization had been compliant with all the requirements given by GAB.

“Mineski Philippines assures all its stakeholders that we have made all efforts to be compliant with GAB’s rules and regulations,” Mineski Country Manager Mark Navarro told.

Additionally, Navarro also told that Mineski responded in time regarding the show-cause order.

“Like many businesses struggling to conduct operations despite the pandemic and the quarantine restrictions imposed by the government, Mineski has responded in a timely manner to the show-cause order and are awaiting GAB’s response. The company will continue to cooperate with GAB to resolve the issue.” he added.

Mineski is one of the biggest esports organizations in the Philippines. Its name has been a trademark for Philippine esports as it pioneered the competitive esports in the country, especially in Dota back in the early years of esports in the country.
