One does not simply quit on his dream. But for NutZ, his multiple shortcomings made him decide to fully turn his back from his own.
After a long career, Singaporean veteran Wong “NutZ” Jeng Yih announced that he was already calling it quits after almost 10 years of being in the competitive scene.
“It is time for me to call it quits from competing in tournaments… It is really difficult to let go of something you’ve committed your whole youth for. I’ve pondered about it for several months and finally decided it is time to move on. The new generation of players is already here. They are the ones who are willing to dedicate their time and are more hungry to show their worth in the scene.” he said.
NutZ’s decision to retire came after his multiple team changes in just a span seven months, and fell short in qualifying for the Dota Pro Circuit 2021.
Wong has played in the early qualifier for the Southeast Asian DPC Regional league where he had a chance to play with former teammates in QueenSurf. After falling short in the qualifiers, NutZ had to reevaluate his position as a veteran, and has decided to quit three months later.
NutZ had a promising career, but had failed multiple time in his dream of lifting the Aegis in The International.
Yih spent most of his career with SEOs, mostly with MVP HOT6ix and MVP Phoenix where he invested two years of his professional player life. With the same team, NutZ placed seventh in the prestigious The International in 2015.
Despite having a very long career, NutZ only had the opportunity to appear in The International once– with MVP Phoenix that is. Throughout his career, NutZ has always focussed on winning a TI, but has always fallen short, and has not even qualified to many except in 2015.
“Lifting that Aegis was everything to me,” the retiree told.
“I truly felt it was an achievable goal not too far from where I was as long as I gathered the right talents and worked hard towards it together. As time goes by, it starts fading and it has come to a point where it doesn’t mean anything to me anymore except for the potential monetary benefits from winning it.” he added.
Do you think NutZ had an interesting career? Is his 10-year experience worthy of calling him a legend?
