Hong Kong’s Cantopop singer Eason Chan might be in a $7-million trouble for allegedly cutting ties with Adidas.
According to reports, Chan has been shaking his hands with Adidas for 10 years now before the singer decided to cut ties with the brand after several clothing brands, including Adidas, have rejected cotton produced in China’s Xinjiang for alleged forced labor.
Chan, being signed in as brand ambassador in 2011, is one of the few celebrities to have a lifetime contract with Adidas which makes his decision to cut ties with the brand a breach of contract.
Reports say that Chan is being fined HK$60M (US$7.7M), an issue not publicly disclosed by both parties.
The Cantopop singer has publicly announced his detachment from brands, including Adidas, that are vilifying China.
Other brands being canceled by the locals from mainland are Nike and H&M after the brands raised their concerns against the forced labor issues in the northwest region of the country.
