Malaysian celebrity and influencer Syatilla Melvin is in hot waters after uploading a controversial TikTok video tagged as ‘racially oppressive’.

In the now deleted video by the influencer, Melvin painted her face black and then ‘transformed’ into a fair-skinned appearance later.

Netizens were quick to call out the celebrity, saying that there could have been many ways to market her product without resorting to a racist approach.

“If you want to sell foundation, there are many ways to market it. You don’t have to resort to blackface,” one netizen said.

Many comments also called the celebrity ‘idiot,’ ‘unethical,’ and ‘cheap,’ for the video suggests that being ‘black’ is ugly, and that her make-up can make you look fair-skinned to look more beautiful.

The caption of the video promotes Melvin’s new foundation, a new product under her make-up line. It is now a no-brainer that the new foundation will get lesser sales due to this incident.
